Radon rough-in the national code, then each province’s choice
For the new homes it covers, the National Building Code calls for a permeable layer under the slab, a sealed sump if there is one, and a pipe stub. That is a rough-in: a fan can be connected later. It is not a measurement, and it is not a system that is running.
Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and the other provinces do not adopt the code on the same day, or with the same exceptions. The municipality and the permit say what applied at that address that year. A “radon ready” leaflet does not give a result in Bq/m³. Connecting the rough-in. The 2025 code.
The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
