Radon rough-in in a new home a capped pipe is not a result

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

On a building site, the radon rough-in is what the concrete will hide: a layer that lets the gas pass, a membrane, a pipe that sticks out of the slab. Once the floor is poured, you do not go back to check those layers without breaking them.

What the owner sees afterwards

A capped pipe in a corner of the mechanical room, sometimes a cover. It is a connection for a future fan. Until that fan is installed and a test has been done in the lived-in rooms, the level is unknown. A new home in Quebec.

After the first winter

You live there, you heat, you measure for 91 days. If the report is under 200 Bq/m³, the rough-in stays a precaution. If it is above, the installer connects the fan to a preparation that is already there, which often shortens the job. The complete system.

The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
