Radon in Chaudière-Appalaches the 2012 survey

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

From Thetford Mines to the Beauce, Chaudière-Appalaches sits on the Appalachians. That bedrock can produce radon. Schools in the region have already been included in provincial measurement campaigns: a reminder that the gas is a local subject, not an abstract national average.

What that changes for a house

The protocol stays Health Canada’s: at least 91 days, preferably when the house is closed and heated, in the lowest occupied room. A 4-day test serves if a deadline is short. It does not replace the long measurement when deciding on mitigation.

Lévis is treated separately in Québec City and Lévis, because the South Shore mixes two geologies.

If the report is high

Confirm the number, then ask for a quote for suction under the slab. The price changes with the foundation, not with the name of the town.

The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
