New homes in Canada a radon rough-in is not a test
On a job site, the rough-in is what the concrete will hide: a gas-permeable layer, a membrane, and a pipe that sticks through the slab. After the pour, you see a capped pipe in a mechanical room. Until someone measures the air where you sleep, the level is unknown.
Warranty is a separate question
Ontario new-home warranty and Quebec’s new-home plan are not the same document. Read the one that came with the house. Either way, test during the first heating season you live there. A pipe already in the slab can shorten the work if the report is high. It does not do the work by itself.
After the first winter
Live in the house, heat it, run 91 days. Under 200 Bq/m³, the rough-in stays a spare. Over 200, the fan connects to a path that is already there. The full system.
The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test is the length Health Canada uses to judge a full heating season. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return, and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report is emailed within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, the fix is a fan that pulls soil gas from under the slab and exhausts it above the roof. Radon Gas is C-NRPP certified for testing and for mitigation, and ships kits across Canada. Start from the Canada test page.
