Radon fan noise a hum is normal, a rattle is not
A radon fan is a small in-line unit, usually in the basement, the garage or the attic. Mounted on flexible couplings, away from a bedroom wall, it makes a low rush of air. A vibrating metal noise can be fixed: a pipe touching a joist, a screw pulled too tight, or a fan near the end of its life.
Do not replace it with a bathroom fan, and do not switch it off at night so you can sleep. If it is stopped, the radon comes back. A stopped fan. Electricity use.
The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
