Radon in Victoria South Vancouver Island was 1.8% of 55 homes

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

The South Vancouver Island health area was 1.8% of 55 homes above 200 Bq/m³. Central and north Vancouver Island were 0.9%. Vancouver was 1.2% of 83. Kootenay-Boundary was 29.3% of 109. British Columbia’s weighted figure was 3.9% because people live on the coast.

Fifty-five homes is a small sample for the capital region. A basement in Victoria still gets its own test. The coast is not a free pass, and it is not the interior.

What the percentage does not measure

The survey describes homes recruited in a health region, not one address. The slab, the sump and how long the windows stay shut change the number next door. The reading that matters is the lowest lived-in room during the heating season.

If the report is over 200

Health Canada’s measurement guide says act within two years between 200 and 600 Bq/m³, and within one year above 600. Above 200. British Columbia Vancouver

The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the return and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report goes out within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation starts with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified and ships kits across Canada. See the Canada test page.
