Radon above 200 Bq/m³ what to do next

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

200 Bq/m³ is Health Canada’s guideline for a year-round average in a room people use. It is not a legal pass-fail line for a private house, and it is not “zero risk.” Above it, the agency recommends action, sooner if the number is much higher.

Check the test first

Right room, full duration, detector left alone. A 4-day result over 200 is a signal to run 91 days, or to move if the deadline is real. A 91-day result over 200 is a solid base for work.

The fix

A system sucks air from under the slab and sends it outside, above the roof. How it works. After it is running, test again. When to retest. The gauge on the pipe shows the fan is pulling. It does not show your radon level.

The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test is the length Health Canada uses to judge a full heating season. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return, and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report is emailed within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, the fix is a fan that pulls soil gas from under the slab and exhausts it above the roof. Radon Gas is C-NRPP certified for testing and for mitigation, and ships kits across Canada. Start from the Canada test page.
