Radon in the basement why the test starts there

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

The house pulls soil gas because it is warmer than the ground. The first air it reaches is the lowest volume: basement, crawl space, or slab on grade. One floor up, the level is often lower. It is not automatically fine.

Finished or not

Bedroom, suite, office, or family room: the detector goes there. Storage only: test the lived-in floor above. Height and drafts are in where to place the detector.

Sump and cracks

An open sump and pipe holes are entries. Closing them helps a fan. When the report is over 200 Bq/m³, the lasting fix is still suction under the slab.

The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test is the length Health Canada uses to judge a full heating season. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return, and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report is emailed within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, the fix is a fan that pulls soil gas from under the slab and exhausts it above the roof. Radon Gas is C-NRPP certified for testing and for mitigation, and ships kits across Canada. Start from the Canada test page.
