When to test for radon October to April, at least 91 days

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

In Quebec, houses stay closed for a large part of the year. Heating draws air from the soil. Exposure is often highest in those months, and those are the months Health Canada recommends for a measurement.

October to April

A 91-day detector placed in November finishes in February, in the middle of the heating season. Placed in May, it mostly describes the summer, with the windows open. The number is still a number, but it compares less well with annual exposure.

If you cannot wait for winter

A 4-day test gives a reading right away: before an offer, or to see whether a room deserves a long measurement now. Say so clearly on the report: it is not the three-month average. What the 91-day test is for.

The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
