Radon for tenants you can ask, you do not drill the slab
Radon is not negotiated when the lease is signed. It is measured. A tenant can place a detector in the lowest lived-in room, with no renovation and without drilling the floor.
What to keep in writing
The laboratory report, the room, the start and end dates. If the level is above 200 Bq/m³, send that report to the landlord and ask for a correction. The Civil Code requires a dwelling in good habitable condition. The Tribunal administratif du logement decides files when the exchange stalls. This text is not legal advice.
Which test
91 days while you live in the unit, preferably in winter. A 4-day test can open the conversation sooner. The decision to do the work rests on the long measurement. How to do the test.
The owner’s side: rental units.
The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
