Radon in the Laurentians the 2012 survey, not one lake

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

The Laurentians are not one soil. The lower Laurentians, around Oka, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac and Deux-Montagnes, have long been documented as a sector where residential radon can be high. Farther north, Saint-Jérôme, Sainte-Agathe or Mont-Laurier have other foundations, other winters, other basements.

Cottage and year-round house

A house lived in all winter is tested during the heating season. A cottage closed part of the year is tested while it is occupied and heated. Otherwise the number describes an empty house. The detector stays in the room where people sleep.

Useful pages: Saint-Jérôme, Saint-Eustache, Blainville, Boisbriand.

The number, afterwards

The reading is in Bq/m³, compared with 200. How to read the unit. Above that, what to do.

The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
