Radon at work the home test does not cover the office

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

An employee who spends the day in a basement or a single-storey building breathes that building’s air, not the air at home. The same gas can build up there. The useful first question is not “is the city at risk.” It is “has this room been measured.”

Where to place the detectors

Rooms occupied for several hours a day, in contact with the soil or just above it. A large floor needs more than one measurement point. The useful period is the heating season, over a long duration, not an afternoon snapshot.

Who is responsible for what

In Quebec, occupational health and safety generally falls to the CNESST. Some employers — post offices, banks, interprovincial transport, band councils, the federal public service — fall under Ottawa. The rule is not the same. This text does not replace the adviser on your health and safety committee. For your child’s school: testing in schools. Working from home is covered in the risks of remote work.

The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
