How often to retest for radon
A report describes the house as it was during the measurement. A slab opened for a drain, new windows, insulation that closes the leaks: the draw from the soil can change. The old PDF does not follow.
Three moments
- After a system is installed, to confirm that the level fell in the lived-in room. The fan’s manometer says the fan is running. It does not say the level.
- After a renovation that tightens the house, or after work in the basement.
- A few years later if a system is in place, to see that it is still doing the job.
The useful duration stays 91 days in the heating season. If the new number is still above 200, go back to the installer with the report.
The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
