How to read a radon report unit, dates, and the room
A laboratory report should show the result, the unit, the start and end dates, and enough information to know which room was measured. Compare Bq/m³ with 200. A result in pCi/L is multiplied by 37 to get Bq/m³: 4 pCi/L is about 148. The conversion.
A six-day test is not an annual average, even if the PDF looks clean. A 91-day test in the closet is not the bedroom. If the report does not name the room, the room was not documented: the number is still true for wherever the detector actually was.
The two timelines
Between 200 and 600, Health Canada recommends acting within two years. Above 600, within a year. 200 to 600. Above 600.
Reference points: Health Canada, what you need to know about radon and the 200 Bq/m³ guideline. The two-year timeline between 200 and 600, and one year above 600, comes from Health Canada’s guide for radon measurements in homes.
The 4-day test gives a first reading. The 91-day test covers the three-month minimum Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax: shipping, return and the laboratory are included, taxes extra. The PDF report is sent within 2 business days after the laboratory receives the detector.
Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation is confirmed with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for measurement and mitigation.
