How to read a radon test report

· 1 min· Gaz Radon

A lab report should show the result, the unit, the start and end dates, and enough to know which room was measured. Compare Bq/m³ with 200. Multiply pCi/L by 37 to get Bq/m³: 4 pCi/L is about 148.

A six-day test is not an annual average, even if the PDF looks official. A 91-day test in a closet is not the bedroom. If the report does not name the room, the room was not documented.

The two timelines

Between 200 and 600, Health Canada recommends acting within two years. Above 600, within one year. 200 to 600. Above 600.

References: Health Canada, radon: what you need to know and the 200 Bq/m³ guideline. The two-year window between 200 and 600, and the one-year window above 600, come from Health Canada’s guide for radon measurements in homes.

The 4-day test is a first reading. The 91-day test covers the minimum of three months Health Canada asks for. Both are $59 before tax. Shipping, the prepaid return and the lab are included. Tax is extra. The PDF report goes out within 2 business days after the lab receives the detector.

Above 200 Bq/m³, mitigation starts with a quote. Gaz Radon is C-NRPP certified for testing and for installation, and ships kits across Canada.
